Summer’s Here – Take the Kitchen Outside!

Filed under: Projects and Ideas — Lakeville KB @ 10:03 am

With the warm weather, most of us are spending time gathered with friends around the barbecue. But what if you wanted to take backyard cooking to the next level? An outdoor kitchen might be just the thing. The National Kitchen and Bath Association reports it as one of the hottest and fastest growing markets – and an outdoor kitchen can add significant value to your home.

These can range from a simple grill / storage cabinet combo to a full kitchen layout complete with sink and even electricity. While every design is different, however, they all share the same necessities: a prep area, a place to cook, a storage area, a cleanup secion, and (of course) a place to eat. Kitchen and Bath Ideas, a division of the Better Homes and Gardens website, has a terrific checklist here, perfect for helping you plan out exactly what you will need.

Crystal Cabinets, a Lakeville featured manufacturer, will be offering a line catering (pun intended) to the specific needs of outdoor kitchens coming in Fall 2010. Click here to learn more about Crystal.

  1. A kitchen is generally the first thing prospective homeowners look at. Today’s kitchen is the life of the home, often serving as a dining area, office, entertaining and gathering place. With so many important functions, the kitchen should be the most welcoming room in the house.

If you only do one thing to your kitchen, replace the cabinets. Kitchen cabinets generally sets the tone for the kitchen, so with one project you instantly wake up the room. If you can’t afford to replace your cabinets, consider stain, or paint to a new color, or reface them with new cabinet doors. Additionally, you can simply add new cabinet hardware to get a completely new look.
