From Galley to Gorgeous

Filed under: Projects and Ideas — Lakeville KB @ 8:19 am

A galley kitchen is one where the cabinets are set in parallel lines along opposing walls, often in a U-shape. While efficient, it can sometimes be a challenge for creative design. With this project, a wall was removed, and the cabinets raised to bring them into the original seating area. The height of the window was also changed. An added island in a contrasting finish completes the transformation to a warm and friendly area perfect for entertaining.

Kitchen: Medallion – Windwood – Saffron Vintage
Island: Medallion – Catalina – Pinot Noir

Summer’s Here – Take the Kitchen Outside!

Filed under: Projects and Ideas — Lakeville KB @ 10:03 am

With the warm weather, most of us are spending time gathered with friends around the barbecue. But what if you wanted to take backyard cooking to the next level? An outdoor kitchen might be just the thing. The National Kitchen and Bath Association reports it as one of the hottest and fastest growing markets – and an outdoor kitchen can add significant value to your home.

These can range from a simple grill / storage cabinet combo to a full kitchen layout complete with sink and even electricity. While every design is different, however, they all share the same necessities: a prep area, a place to cook, a storage area, a cleanup secion, and (of course) a place to eat. Kitchen and Bath Ideas, a division of the Better Homes and Gardens website, has a terrific checklist here, perfect for helping you plan out exactly what you will need.

Crystal Cabinets, a Lakeville featured manufacturer, will be offering a line catering (pun intended) to the specific needs of outdoor kitchens coming in Fall 2010. Click here to learn more about Crystal.

Congratulations to Thomas Piccione on his acceptance into Marine Officer Candidate School! Thomas, son of showroom staff’s Barbara Piccione, is a second lieutenant working towards a captainship in aviation.

Congratulations also go out to Amber Fogarty, daughter of office manager Steven Fogarty, who helped the Bay Shore girls’ softball team earn the NYS Class AA Championship; and to Alex Genao, nephew of receptionist Kathy Sladky, whose two-run double led Lindenhurst to the NYS Championship in boys’ baseball.

We are very proud of them and wish them all the best!

All Good Things Must Come to an End

Filed under: Lakeville News — Lakeville KB @ 9:18 am

Lakeville Kitchen & Bath has been very fortunate to have in our company, for the past twenty-five years, Mr. Norman Pitzer. Norman has been our comptroller for all these years and is now retiring and relocating, with his wife, Irene, to Seattle, Washington, to join their two sons, Raymond and Josh, already residing there.

Every company should be as fortunate as ours, to have a Norman Pitzer, for all the years we did. Personally, for each of the twenty-five years, Norman was by my side as a trusting, capable, thoughtful, respectful and dignified right hand confidant. Each and every one of my employees was equally lucky; as much as Norman had my best interest in mind, he too had each of his colleague best interest also in mind, making certain that every employee based decision was carefully considered and fairly administered.

Lakeville will miss this extraordinary individual, but we all know that Norman’s decision was made only after considerable thought – he was ready to be with his children in Seattle and leave behind a home at Lakeville where he was so loved, respected, welcomed and appreciated.

All good things must come to an end. The river of time keeps moving on. I, and all of Norman’s colleagues at Lakeville, know , how fortunate we all have been, and how much he has contributed to the success of this company and each of us. May he enjoy his new home and retirement for many, many happy, healthy and wonderful years to come.

Medallion a “Best Buy”

Filed under: Industry Tidbits — Lakeville KB @ 9:24 am

Over 100 finishes, over 1,000 stain combinations, and numerous wood species and design options: these are only a few of the reasons Consumer’s Digest Magazine awarded Medallion Cabinetry’s Designer Gold line with their “Best Buy” certificate. This prestigious rating is given to less than 3% of competitors in a particular category. Consumer’s Digest lists Designer Gold as “the least expensive semi-custom line that has all-plywood construction and a lifetime warranty”.

Medallion is one of the most popular manufacturers at Lakeville, and both our original Lindenhurst location and our new Smithtown showroom offer many choices in Designer Gold (and the other Medallion lines) for the consumer. Click here to see a few of them!

Residential Remodeling Improving

Filed under: Uncategorized — Lakeville KB @ 12:14 pm

Residential remodeling appears to be on an upswing, according to a recent survey by the American Institute of Architects. After polling 500 residential architecture firms, results were “encouraging” for the third quarter of 2009. AIA Chief Economist Kermit Baker reported that an “extremely high level of…unsold homes due to the…housing market” combined with an increase in “home energy and transportation costs” have caused homeowners to resist moving – and instead re-imagine the living space they currently have.
