Murphy Beds: What’s Old is New Again

Filed under: Industry Tidbits,Uncategorized — Lakeville KB @ 11:16 am

One of the freshest ideas in home remodeling is…the Murphy bed. I know, at first you might think it sounds odd, but think again – this hundred-year-old wall bed is having quite the renaissance!

First introduced in 1900, Murphy beds have undergone a radical transformation. Furniture-grade facades and a greater variety of sizes replace the strictly ultiliarian designs of yesteryear, making this an easy and polished was to fix a space crunch.

Crystal Cabinets has added Murphy beds to their catalog, available with the same quality styling and beautiful finishes that make them a leader in their field. Visit Lakeville’s Crystal page to learn more about what they offer.

Grey is “The New Black” for Kitchens and Baths

Filed under: Industry Tidbits,Projects and Ideas — Lakeville KB @ 4:03 pm

It might not be the first color you think of for kitchen cabinetry, but designers, color experts, and those in the industry are all singing the praises of grey. An article on the K+BB website[1] lauds it as a “go to color…gray even goes with gray”. It is classic yet unexpected, easily complements a number of styles, and looks fresh, especially when done in a matte finish.

Plain and Fancy Custom Cabinetry stated in a recent newsletter[2] that “the great thing about gray cabinets is that…you’re not locked into a single appliance palette”. They, as well as Lakeville’s other manufacturers, offer a number of shades ranging from silver to charcoal – an interesting trend worth checking out.

Seen and Heard Around the Industry

Filed under: Industry Tidbits — Lakeville KB @ 1:44 pm

• Oil-rubbed bronze has become a popular finish for hardware and other fixtures; it has a warm, old-world look and can be less expensive than pewter finishes.

• The Pascal faucet by Brizo is making quite a splash! A hands-free heat sensor turns on the water when you wave your hands under the spout; an electronic setting differentiates objects that may need to sit in the sink awhile, such as a stack of dishes.

• Cabinet door styles are trending towards the simpler (such as Park Place or Devonshire); colors such as Ginger Snap (a rich deep stain) and Divinity (a white paint) are still going strong.

Medallion a “Best Buy”

Filed under: Industry Tidbits — Lakeville KB @ 9:24 am

Over 100 finishes, over 1,000 stain combinations, and numerous wood species and design options: these are only a few of the reasons Consumer’s Digest Magazine awarded Medallion Cabinetry’s Designer Gold line with their “Best Buy” certificate. This prestigious rating is given to less than 3% of competitors in a particular category. Consumer’s Digest lists Designer Gold as “the least expensive semi-custom line that has all-plywood construction and a lifetime warranty”.

Medallion is one of the most popular manufacturers at Lakeville, and both our original Lindenhurst location and our new Smithtown showroom offer many choices in Designer Gold (and the other Medallion lines) for the consumer. Click here to see a few of them!
